What’s up

We are enjoying ourselves.  We spend time outside, swimming and playing, going to summer camp and snuggling our baby.  We are having campouts in the back yard with Daddy and getting far too much sun.  Here some random pictures to sum up this past week…

My parents’ house.  Getting into the patriotic spirit.

Guac with some homegrown produce??  Yes please. (you can stop drooling now)

Can’t get her out of the pool, hence the tan lines and 24/7 swimwear. But my gosh, isn’t she just the cutest??

We headed down to the beach to hang with cousin A.  I loved that he plopped right down on the rug and let me take a few pictures of him and his beloved toothbrush.

And of course..the beebs.  My dad said he doesn’t look too thrilled in the picture.  I tried telling G-man to gear up for an instagram picture but he wouldn’t listen.

This is why I have children

She had no idea I was filming her.

P.S. this went on for a full five minutes.  G-man never tired of her antics.

On my bed

10 pm.  He fought sleep for a good hour after he was bathed, changed and fed.  I couldn’t figure it out.  Why wouldn’t he sleep? He’s usually so good about going down.  Pop in his binky and he’s out.

Not this night. After rocking him, shhhshing him and trying everything else I finally thought, “well, I’ll nurse him again.”  And he was finally content.  And I lay there with him holding his little fingers and smelling his sweet baby skin.  This.  I want to freeze it. I want this memory to live forever in my mind.

My little baby boy, my first son, sleeping peacefully on my bed.

My heart

It’s hard to explain, without sounding like my head is about to explode because of all the cheese….but…I have the best family.

No, it’s not always a picnic.  We get grumpy and tired and hungry and the kids fight and bicker and kick and bite and there’s even some yelling involved. Sometimes it’s a picnic with giant fire ants destroying your will to live. <---sarcasm

Yet every night I go to bed and pour out buckets of gratuity to my Heavenly Father for the other humans in my life. I can never tell Him enough.  I am so blessed.  More than I could have possibly imagined.

And one of those other humans is my husband.

My kids are lucky.  They have scored a rockstar Dad.  A Dad who takes them on one-on-one overnight backpacking trips (ask Diva about that one!)  A Dad who teaches them how to hit a baseball.  A Dad who wishes he could be the one to take them to gymnastics.  There are trips to get ice cream, breakfast and movies.  A Dad who has taken them on more hikes than I can remember.  They have a Dad who tells them almost every day, “I wish I could stay and play with you!”

He’s a Dad who remembers to bless the “cheercho’s” in the morning, to have family prayer and will put on Diva’s socks and shoes while she’s eating so she won’t be late for school.  He’s a Dad who will work in Diva’s classroom on his day off and help prepare a Valentine’s day party.

He’s a Dad who takes G-man after his morning feed and hangs out with him while Mommy sleeps just a little longer.  He’s a Dad who will put G-man back down for a morning nap, put a show on for Munchkin so Mommy can sleep just a little longer.  momma’s gotta get her rest, yo.

He is, in a nutshell…the heart.  My heart.  The glue that holds us together.  We can’t live without him.

Happy Father’s Day!

….next up…signs of summer part three.

last year at this time I was puking my guts out, managing only to sit by the pool and watch the girls swim, day in and day out. I could barely form a coherent thought, let alone do all the things we normally do during the summer.

but now baby boy is here and we’re back at it.
