Memorial Day

swimsuit-1

I love days like these.  Days where you just live in a swim suit.  Days where you are only out of the water to eat or pee (or if you’re under 5, peeing in the pool is fair game.)

Memorial Day was a blast.  We hung out with friends and swam for hours and hours.

Guess who asked for food all day?

Miss M is a little reserved around the water. She didn’t want our help and refused any kind of flotation device so she could join her older sister in the pool.

Instead, she just swung.

All in all, a very fun day!

Graduation

IMG_0826  IMG_0810

My “baby” girl graduated from preschool today!  So sad!  So cute!  She absolutely adored preschool.  She loved her friends, her teachers, the crafts, the songs…etc.  I can only hope she loves Kindergarten just as much.  And I hope her teachers are just as amazing as Miss Jan.  I’ll miss her!

Afterward I took the girls to get pedicures to celebrate.  Oh yes.  I’m so Hollywood.

Needless to say….they loved it.

Totally forgot to get an “after” picture.  Oh well.  Just use your imagination.  And by imagination I mean pink, pink and more pink.

A voice to remember

For the longest time I had been trying to capture this tiny, sweet, lispy little voice on film but unlike her older, video-ham sister, she refused to perform.   Finally the other day she was reading to herself and I got it!  Oh her voice just melts my heart.  I want to burn it into my memory.

Food

wmelon-1

Some say I’m a bit picky about food.  Not true.  I am selective.  Big difference.

In no particular order, here is a list of foods I’d rather not ingest:

Watermelon (basically anything with the word “melon” in it)

Any kind of pie

Marinara sauce (but oddly I love tomatoes, tomato soup and tomato juice)

Donuts.  It’s a texture thing.

Mushrooms

Licorice

Bacon

Sausage

Fast food pizza

Fast food in general with the exception of Subway

Pastries

99.9% of all BBQ sauces

Spaghetti (because of aforementioned Marinara sauce)-This is particularly upsetting to my husband who absolutely adores spaghetti.

Cheesecake

So.  That’s about it I believe. You see, it’s not that bad.  Really.  Right?  I do love many, many foods.  Most of them in fact and I’m not afraid to try new ones.  I freakin love fish and a lot of people hate it.  So that’s 1,000 points for me.

Speaking of food.  Munchkin asks for it about…oh…every 2 minutes.  I wish I were kidding.

“Mommy, I’m huuuungwree.”

Carrots, 2 apricots, 1 big smoothie, half a watermelon (my children do not share in my distaste for this fruit), cheese, two bowls of cereal, blueberries, turkey slices, orange, chips, pistachios…sigh.  Still not done with the day.

It makes the world taste good

Remember this creepster?  Can you imagine sending your child to a candy store where a guy like this worked?

Sisters

sisters-1

9 pm. 5-17-11

You would never know they were at each other’s throats all day.

Yes, they were really asleep.  No, I didn’t pose them.  Yes I used a super bright flash in their pitch dark room.  No, they didn’t even stir.

P.S. It’s a true miracle that they were actually asleep by 9pm.

Grateful

mom-1

My mom rocks. I am grateful for her.

IMG_9411-Edit

First off, she’s beautiful.  And did I mention she’s had eleven kids?  For real.  But that’s not everything.

memom-1

If one can even believe it, I was a brat as a teenager.  A gigantic, snotty brat.  I know right?  Shocking.  And unfortunately the snootiness was mostly directed toward my mother.  I don’t know how she managed not to beat the crap out of me because I surely deserved it. But as I grew older and began to realize that the world does not indeed revolve around me I started to get it.  My mom is the best!

She is a great friend.  She knows when to listen and when to give advice.  She is a fabulous grandmother.  She literally will drop everything to help me with my girls, even if she had just been watching them the entire day before.  I try my best not to abuse this because I know she will not say no.  Ever.

house-1

Refuge. My parents’ home is always open to my family.   And we are there often, enjoying the yard, the toys, the company.  It’s a place where I feel safe and I’m grateful I feel so comfortable coming and going as I please.

My mom’s garden.  Because my own home is severely lacking in outdoor space I become giddy at the thought of fresh tomatoes from her garden every summer.  Combined with the fact that my knowledge in cultivating is also severely lacking, I am doubly grateful.

Grow baby, grow!

husband-1

This dude.  I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to gush over him in such a public fashion so I’ll just say I really only like him for his looks.

carrotcake-1

This cake.  Made from the skilled hands of my mother.  It contains parsnips, apples, carrots and zucchini, as well as lots of other yummy ingredients.  You’d think it tastes veggie-ish but noooo, it’s so moist and delicious.  And did I mention the frosting is apple cider cinnamon cream cheese?  Yeah, it’s as fantastic as it sounds.   I’d share the recipe but alas I have it not.  Another day folks.

And of course…

Yes I’m grateful for Miss M too but I have taken about 9,000 pictures of her in the past week or so and quite frankly she is dunzo.  But hey, guess what?  Binky is gone for good.  I held true to my word.  Instead she has taken to other measures for comforting.  Such as emptying every.single. article of clothing out of her and her sister’s drawers, smearing toothpaste on the mirror, slathering herself, her hair and the chair in her room in lotion, making 36.5 wardrobe changes, dumping out the water bottles or sitting in the toilet.  No not ON the toilet. IN the toilet.  Yes, inside the stupid toilet or as Diva shouted, “Mommy! She’s sitting criss-cross applesauce in the toilet!”  All this after we have put them to bed for the night.

But sure, I’m grateful.  Winking smile
