Wanna wig?

One of the most fun things after having a baby is hair loss. Super, super fun. Starts around 3 months post partum. I seriously could make a wig with all the hair that is coming off my head. Good thing I have a ton of it. But for real, I found one of my hairs in my baby's diaper. Gross.

That's it.

Photo shoot

I am by NO MEANS a photographer. In fact, I stink at it. I want to become better though because time passes too quickly and I want to snap as many great photos as I can of my two beautiful subjects. My husband received a great camera (Rebel XT) as a graduation present (Masters...woohoo!!) but trying to figure out how to use the camera manually makes my head spin. The only photography lessons I received was when I was in 8th grade and that consisted of going into a dark room with a 300+ lb 60 year-old man. No thanks. So here are the best shots I could come up with this afternoon after messing around for a bit. Not great but hey....I'm trying.

I wonder if they make baby training bras?

Love those beautiful blue eyes.

She is my happy, chubby baby.

I heart breastfeeding.....

My husband will probably laugh at me for blogging about this but since blogs are like journals I really wanted to talk about it. And despite the dismay of a couple people who might read this (*cough* Leighanna) I'm still going to do it!!

My first daughter was not a good nurser. I basically had to force her to eat for 7 months and then I gave up on nursing and switched to bottle-feeding. Sadly it was much of the same. Forced-feeding; only I then had to deal with bottles.

So along comes my second daughter and she is a WONDERFUL eater. I couldn't ask for anything better. She nurses like a champ and has already doubled her birth weight before 3 months. So I can honestly say I LOVE BREASTFEEDING!!! I do. It is so convenient. Having had to deal with bottles before I try not to take this wonderful relationship for granted.

Some pros:

-I don't have to prepare/wash bottles
-I don't have to worry about the temperature or sterility
-I have her food wherever I go
-Babies are so good at regulating their food supply. The hungrier they are, the more they'll want to nurse and the more the mommy will make....it's pretty awesome.
-I don't have to pack a bunch of crap
-I can easily nurse one-handed and do other things while I'm nursing. My husband has witnessed this and told me, "you're pretty talented honey." ha ha. I don't have to hold a bottle!!
-Middle of the night feedings are so easy. Pop on the baby while lying in bed and we can both snooze.
-Breastmilk is easy on my baby's tummy (I realize this is not the case for some mommies). I don't have to worry if the formula I chose is not the right one.
-Something I always worry about is if there was a major emergency or national crisis and food shortage was an issue. What if I got stuck somewhere where we couldn't get food? I wouldn't have to worry about trying to find formula for my young baby. A story that really stood out to me awhile ago was of a young mother with her two children; 4 years and 7 months. Their car got stuck in the snow and they were TRAPPED for FOUR days while her husband went looking for help (and sadly died while trying). She kept her children alive and hydrated by breastfeeding them BOTH. Amazing.
-Breastmilk is obviously the superior food. Yes it is better than formula and always will be. Some people get offended by this comment but it's the truth.

Cons:

-It hurts in the beginning but for me it only lasted 4 days.
-No one else can help with the feedings but I don't mind one bit.
-I can't ever leave her for more than a couple hours but honestly I don't want to be away from her for that long anyway!

In conclusion I realize a wonderful nursing relationship can be hard to come by and for a lot of mothers it produces a lot of frustration and tears and GUILT. I know, I've been there! So because of that I am so grateful that my baby knows what she is doing!

Now I don't consider myself a "lactivist" and I'm not going to be breastfeeding my baby til' she's 5 (although it's quite the norm in other countries!!). I just wanted to say that breastfeeding rocks!!

Father's Day

I just wanted to let my hubby know how much he is appreciated. He is a wonderful father. Our girls love him so much. My 2 year-old loves to go on her special daddy-daughter outings with him and my 2.5 months old gives him smiles constantly.

He takes care of our children, he loves them, he reads to them, plays with them and is always so helpful. I love you honey, thank you for being such a great dad to our two beautiful daughters!

If you would like to read how great MY dad is...just click here.

I would also like to give a shout out to my father in-law but I doubt he reads my blog. However he's still an awesome person...so awesome in fact he is in Ethiopia right now probably building a latrine for the people of the village they are staying in. Thanks Papa for raising such a great son and being such a great example!

UPDATE

EDIT: Thank you for the advice ladies. I shall incorporate all of it. Jill I will not hate you if it doesn't work, I will just send Diva over to your house and she can pee all over your place. ;) By the way, I found that clip and will watch it! Thanks!

Diva has now taken to holding in her pee pee but still refuses to "let it go" in the toilet. SIGH. She immediately pees when I put a pull up on her for naps and such.

Well it's been 3 days of this potty training business. You want to know how many times Diva has gone pee pee in the potty? ZERO. Yes I know my lovely husband said I aborted the mission but I have not. She spent all morning in her cute little undies, sat on the potty 4 times but WOULD NOT PEE! Never in my life would I have imagined that a stream of flowing into a toilet would make me so happy. Alas it has not happened though. She has however had several "accidents" around the house. All on the tile thank goodness. Am I expecting too much? Am I trying too soon?? Should I get her her own little potty? Right now it's just a smaller potty "lid" on top of the big toilet.

Anyway I'm already sick of hearing myself say, "Do you need to go potty in the toilet? Tell mommy when you need to go pee pee, don't pee in your underwear!"

If you have advice, I would love to hear it.

Blessing Day

Sunday we blessed Lil' Sis. I completely forgot about taking pictures until after we changed so I quickly threw my dress back on and Hubby snapped a few pics*. I wish we had one of the whole fam but it wasn't meant to be.

Lil' Sis looks terrified, or worried, or fed up. Either way she looks adorable in her custom made blessing outfit (custom made forDiva actually) I'm laughing in this picture because the 5 people behind the camera were making Diva yell out, "I'm so PREEEEETYYY!!!" Sadly, she knows it too.

Typical picture right? Someone always has to be screaming.

*I know the pictures are gigantic but if I resize them our faces become deformed and hey, I want everyone to see our full beauty.
