Good Things to Come

I love Elder Holland's way with words. And more importantly I love the Gospel!

The Happy Chart

I've discussed Diva's behavior on here quite often. I LOVE her. I do, I promise. But like I have mentioned before, it really is such a challenge being her mother. And I know part of the reason is because I am "in the box" toward her.

It's not like I don't try to get out of that $#%$* box because I do, almost every day. However just when I'm lifting out my last leg I'm shoved right back in on my butt.

Every night I pray for guidance on how to parent her and every time I have this feeling I should make her a chart. Procrastination is my middle name so I never made it a priority.

Until today.

Diva has a very strong personality and most days I love that about her but it also means she lives by the motto, "MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY." So asking her to do things is our biggest struggle.

Cue the Happy Chart.

Why is it called the Happy Chart? Because when she is happy, I am happy and when I am happy, everybody is happy.

Now to clarify, I don't have a crafty bone in my body. So a little project like this was quite overwhelming. How in the H do I make a chart? Let's just say it's not a cutesy or pretty chart but it's a chart.

I wrote down the main things we battle about everyday. She can receive up to three stickers a day for each behavior. If she gets at least 12 stickers at the end of the week, she can get a big treat.

Wish me luck.

Bloopers

I love getting good pictures like this:

But it takes a few tries:

Eventually I get the good stuff!

Tables

I'm kind of in love with our table.

I bought it on sale for 50% off and it's beautiful.  LOVE it.   BUT...

What kind of person puts CARPET under the table area?  How is that a good idea?  It's not. Although I do appreciate the fact our carpet is brown.

Our kids basically thrashed our previous table and they are sooooo not doing that to this one.  Not to mention the kind of spot cleaning I'd be doing 24/7.

So... I got another table.   Craigslist.  $40. Genius.  Sturdy, solid wood made for little eaters.

It fits perfectly in our little kitchen area over TILE, not carpet.  Clean up is so simple and I do lot of it.  I can only imagine the kind of mess I'd deal with had I not been so clever (read: lazy).

Cut

Conundrum: Having one daughter with beautiful, thick, lustrous hair but LOATHES when I attempt to fix it.  Having another daughter with fine, thin, mulletous hair but doesn't mind when I try to fix it. It's a tragedy really.

So what's a mom to do?  Defer to someone else and pay them.  Problem solved.

First "real" haircut.  Not so sure about those nails up there.

Happy now!  Loving the flowers.

I promise you I NEVER see that kind of smile after I do her hair.  Sigh.

I should clarify that I didn't bring them in specifically to do pretty hairstyles. I'm not some real housewife of New Jersey here. Those hairdos were secondary to the haircuts they so badly needed.

Kiddles

I've been a little M.I.A. For good reasons though. I've had plenty of family in town and enjoying every minute!

My niece, my sweet little chubby cheeked niece. She is just the cutest.

Oh how these girls love swimming. Cumulatively over the past couple weeks they have spent almost a full 24 hours in the pool. I seriously can't get them out. Diva's tan lines make me jealous!

Surrounded by boys! Uncles, cousins and friends of uncles. My girls love EVERY.SECOND.

I love my family and I still get to hang out with my sister and her kiddles for the next week or so! Awesome!

Cindiva

Ah...my sister. I love when she's around. She's a second (or maybe third or fourth) mother to my girls. They love her. I'm grateful to have such wonderful sisters who make fantastic aunts!

Funnily enough her nickname is Cindiva. Real name Cindy. She is home for the summer and I have been reaping the benefits of having her around.

She's only 19 but has mucho mothering experience. She knows what needs to be done, when it needs to be done and just does it.

Am I selfish to say that I hope she never gets married and has kids of her own? I need her as my personal mother's assistant.

"Caw!"

No that's not a bird sound. It's the word my little Munchkin uses for "draw."

I hear it a LOT.

Diva also loves to draw and with the two of them drawing all day I'm left with stacks of these:

I guess we're not the "greenest" family on the block. But hey, it keeps them entertained!

Every day one or both of my girls is dressed up.

Most days I love it, embrace it, enjoy it.

Some days I roll my eyes.

Often they want to wear them out in public and I rarely say no. It's not a battle worth fighting.

They receive "ooohs" and "ahhhhs" and "wow, you are so pretty" or "princesses don't cry" (yeah that doesn't help)

It's a phase I know won't last forever and I also know that in the future I'll be wishing my biggest problem was whether or not to address my girls as "Miss Fairy" or "Miss Princess." (seriously don't get those two mixed up)
