Two quickly

When I signed up to be a mother I guess I skipped over the part that states, "And your children will grow up so quickly that if you blink, you might miss the important parts."

Lil' Sis' turned two on March 27th and for the first time I physically ached at the thought of her getting older. I'll admit that I play favoritism sometimes with my little peanut because she has been worlds different than her older sister. I love Diva more than anything of course but she has been a mighty challenge. Lil' Sis' is like a breath of fresh air.

Don't get me wrong, Lil' Sis' is FEISTY but she is also sweet, loving, cuddly and just downright adorable. She is a fast learner and watches her older sister like a hawk. She takes notes and puts them to good use.



While we partied, I put Cinderella to work:

I think my favoritism is becoming too apparent.

She's got my back.

In the process of moving Diva came across an old photo album of Hubby's. She eagerly flipped through the pages making hilarious comments.

You see this photo album was put together during Hubby's pre-mish days while he attended BYU-Hawaii. He was single, care-free, cute, tanned, blonde and his appetite for surfing was satiated every single day.

Back to Diva and her hilarious comments; she comes across a photo of 18 year-old Hubbs standing gleefully next to Miss Hawaiian Tropic:

Hubbs said I was only allowed to post this if I clarified that she is his ex. Uh huh. Right.

Diva is studying it intently and with a furrowed brow she asks me, "Mommy, who is this with Daddy, is this you?"

"Uh no honey, definitely not Mommy."

"But MOMMY! Who IS this?!"

"You're going to have to ask Daddy."

"Why is she with Daddy? She is not my mommy."

Diva continues to act extremely perturbed and determined to solve the mystery.

"Mommy I don't know who she is!" And then, bless her heart, she proclaims,

"MOMMY! But Daddy doesn't LOVE HER!"

Conked

Having church from 1 pm -4 pm is just plain cruel.

Preparation

I am forever grateful that my hubby had the courage, the faith and determination to serve a mission.

Because not only did it prepare him to be an amazing husband but it also prepared him for this:

What's in a name?

I wish someone would have told me that parenting would include a lot of improvisation and quick-thinking, two skills in which I am not very adept.

Par exemple:

Diva inquires daily about names. I could be speaking to the internet (or gas company or electric or water-yeah MOVING SUCKS) lady on the phone and she will buzz incessantly in my free ear, "What's her name? What's her name? What's her name?" and I am never allowed to say:

"I don't know."

Those three words are never, under any circumstance to be uttered in her presence.

So without those banned words to fall back on I have to think FAST. I manage to finish my conversation on the phone but all the while she is STILL.ASKING. I say things like, "Um....uh...John?" Wait, crap, that's a guy's name. "Jackie?" Shoot, she already knows a Jackie (I am also not allowed to repeat a name of someone she knows because according to soon-to-be four year-olds there are no duplicates.)

"Um...Cheryl!" Success!

So in dozens of similar scenarios I have come up with many names.

Sebastian (I said this name and she immediately demanded a different one because there was no possible way I was speaking to a tiny red crab with a Jamaican accent)

In situations like these I often think of this post and then I shudder a little. Still on the lookout for that safe-haven.

Factoids

Fact: I loathe moving.

We are moving literally 1 minute away and it's still a royal pain in my A. Don't ask why we're moving. It's too convoluted for the blogosphere. Also, can I say "moving" enough? MOVING!





Fact: That finger is gnarly. I can't stand looking at it everyday. Two pediatrician visits, an x-ray and two courses of antibiotics later and I finally have a referral to a dermatologist. Now I just have to wait a month until we can get in! It's cool, she's been rockin' this funky finger for 8 months anyway, what's one extra?
